Meet Babal, Restaurant Manager of Orbit. Babal started his journey at SkyCity 10 years ago working as a Senior Waiter. During his time in the business Babal has progressed in his career through a range of roles from Senior Waiter all the way to Restaurant Manager. In this Q&A, we catch up with him to talk more about his journey and why he enjoys working here.
What do you enjoy the most about your role and working at SkyCity? Working in hospitality I just love meeting new people, and when guests leave fully satisfied it brings a lot of joy for me. I also love leading the team from the front in pressure situations as we all know working in hospitality can be little stressful at times.
What have you found at SkyCity that makes it different from other workplaces? Guest experience is one great thing I have my passion for and SkyCity has been a great workplace for me to grow and therefore, establish my value in the industry. Especially working in Orbit 360 Dining, I have been fortunate enough to interact with a vast range of markets and customers, from our convention, casino, restaurants and more. And I am thankful that I was able to gain my experience and develop my competency throughout my career at SkyCity.
Working at SkyCity gave me the opportunity to progress, I have worked in this business for 10 years and having started off as a Senior Waiter I was able to move up to a Duty Manager, Assistant Manager and fast forward now a Restaurant Manager.
How do you manage your well-being and work/life balance? I like to detach from work and go for a run or hit the gym. I also play cricket in summer which gives me a lot of happiness. I also enjoy spending time with my son who has just turned four, he’s precious…
