Samantha Jenkins has been with SKYCITY Hamilton for almost five years. Sam began her winning career at SKYCITY Hamilton as a casual Functions Attendant. After 6 months, she became a part-time Food & Beverage attendant in the cafe where she worked for two years.
While working, Sam studied Tourism Management and Marketing at Waikato University. After graduating, she took the role of Gaming Marketing Coordinator with SKYCITY Hamilton where she has now worked for two years. Sam jumped at the career opportunities that were available to her and she reaped the rewards. Read more to find out about her!
Describe your current role
I’m mainly based around the casino, I help with creating gaming promotions, whether it’s on the main gaming floor or VIP. I also set up the promotions and handle communications with the loyalty base through mail-outs and birthday letters.
What do you enjoy most about it?
I enjoy the variety, I work on the gaming side of things but I also take on other projects such as sponsorship works, and VIP events. There are always a lot going on.
What do you enjoy about working at SKYCITY Hamilton?
The people that work here are close with each other and you know everyone that works here, it’s almost like a family environment and they look after you.
What would you say to anyone applying for a job similar to yours?
Go in with an open mind and be ready to learn new things and meet new people.
What makes SKYCITY different to other work places?
There are a lot of opportunities here. I started from my previous part time role and there was an opportunity to step up to my current role. Quite often, SKYCITY looks internally for anyone that wants to step up.
What do you do outside of work?
I play netball and go to the gym. I like doing outdoor activities such as going on bush walks, going to the lake and wake boarding.
