Nadeeka is the Duty Manager of Andy’s Burgers & Bar at SKYCITY Auckland. She manages shifts ensuring things run smoothly, orders supplies and looks after the team.
With a stunning nine-year career at SKYCITY so far, and three Quest for the Best awards, Nadeeka knows a lot about customer service and running the day-to-day operations of a restaurant.
“My favourite part about my role is when it gets crazy busy – it keeps me on my toes and I love seeing happy customers enjoying themselves,” says Nadeeka.
Nadeeka’s manager, Vijay Velusamy, shares why Nadeeka was nominated for her latest Quest for the Best award. “Nadeeka has amazing people skills, she makes people smile as soon as she interacts with them. She helps the team and especially supports the young staff with training and encouraging them to move up the ladder.”
Starting her career journey at REBO as a waiter, Nadeeka moved into a hosting role and then to a combined host and team leader role after a six month team leader trial during the Rugby World Cup. During her time at REBO she also went on a year’s maternity leave to have her daughter, Hanah.
“The team was really supportive when I returned back to work – they made it much easier for me to juggle work and motherhood.”
While Nadeeka didn’t start working at SKYCITY with a set career plan, she did know she eventually wanted to be a Duty Manager. So she worked hard, she kept an eye out for opportunities and took them at every turn.
“The thing I enjoy most about working at SKYCITY is the team I work with. Some of them I know from REBO so have worked with a long time. My manager VJ is fantastic, and we all look after each other.
“One of the most memorable moments at SKYCITY was when I was working at REBO and we had $12 lunch specials – every day there was a line outside from 11.45am and people just kept coming!”
