Meet Alexander, Area Supervisor – Table Games at SKYCITY Auckland, who’s been with us for 22 years! How long have you been in your current role?
I've been an Area Supervisor (Table Games) for 10 years.
What other roles have you held at SKYCITY?
I previously held a role as a Part-time Gaming Machine Attendant.
How long have you worked at SKYCITY?
I've worked at SKYCITY for a total of 22 years.
Can you briefly describe your current role?
I oversee activity in an assigned area in the gaming floor, provide leadership, support and guidance to staff to ensure that our guests have an exceptional gaming experience and also delivering exceptional guest service myself.
What do you enjoy most about your current role?
I do enjoy interacting or engaging with our customers. I've learned a lot about their cultures through engaging with them.
What sorts of challenges do you encounter?
I work mainly in VIP/Saloon room and there are times when situations can get tense. For me, some of the challenges that I need to overcome is how to handle difficult situations and based on my customer experience I guess I handle it well.
What did you do before you joined SKYCITY?
Way back in the Philippines, I was a Quality Control Manager in the manufacturing of Telecommunications products.
What do you enjoy about working at SKYCITY?
For me, it's the internal relationships that we can build with different teams and departments. The different nationalities and cultures we have here at SKYCITY is unique and that's what I enjoy about working at SKYCITY.
What would you say to anyone considering joining your team or applying for a job like yours?
I would advise anyone considering joining my team in Table Games that this job is awesome and fabulous! This job gives you the privilege of gaining a lot of table experience. One should also be aware of their technical abilities and the most important thing in this business is being a people person.
Which of SKYCITY's employee benefit(s) do you enjoy most?
Honestly, I hate cooking so I really enjoy the subsidised meal in 24/7 employee restaurant. I guess you will not get any better concession with SKYCITY’s subsidised meals, inexpensive parking and great health care insurance. PERFECTO .....
Is there anything about SKYCITY that makes it different to other work places?
I think it's the UNIQUENESS and DIVERSITY of people working in SKYCITY. We run a lot of company promotions for our valued customers and we also have the best restaurants in New Zealand. And lastly, the great New Zealand icon... the Sky Tower!
Where were you born/raised and how long have you lived in Auckland?
I was born and raised in the fun, exciting, and exotic island of the Philippines. I've been here in my adopted country for the last 22 years and I'm loving every single day of it.
What do you do outside of work?
Hmmm... sounds personal.. .just kidding... I love watching movies, go to gym as much as I can, and play racket sports like tennis and badminton. I do love dining out and having said that, I've started my dining adventure at the Top 50 restaurants of Auckland. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it so much...
