Liam Prime - Purchasing Coordinator

SKYCITY has been actively involved in the TupuToa internship programme, welcoming six interns into our business over the past year, providing experience and insights to a next generation of Maori and Pasifika business leaders. Liam recently joined our Procurement team following his internship with Air New Zealand, and he shares his story with us…

What’s your role at SKYCITY and how long have you been with us?

Purchasing Coordinator. I’ve been with SKYCITY for just over a week.

How are you finding SKYCITY?

I really like how welcoming everyone is. Even though it’s big, it still feels small because of how everyone knows each other.

It is reassuring to know that everyone is more than happy to help with any issues that may arise, and knowing that there really are no silly questions.

What did you do before you joined SKYCITY?

I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to do a TupuToa internship over the summer with the Procurement department at Air New Zealand, giving me insight to the corporate life and the opportunities it provides.

I have also had experience working for a small marketing company in Hamilton while doing my University studies.

I have just finished studies at the University of Waikato, majoring in Marketing and International Management and look forward to the future this degree has to offer.

How has the TupuToa internship you’ve done helped you?

I found the internship perfect for getting to know how to act in the corporate world. Knowing that you can transfer your personal attitude into the corporate life.

It helped me get networking skills and more importantly gain lifelong friends.

TupuToa has been pivotal in my transition from studying to the work force, I will be forever grateful for the opportunity they have given me and my fellow TupuToa alumni.

Where were you born/raised and how long have you lived in Auckland?

I have moved a fair amount in my younger years but call Whangarei, Kamo home.

I moved to Auckland around November after completing my degree. Traffic has been something to get used to but it has been an exciting new experience for me.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I spend most of my time playing hockey, skateboarding and also (trying) surfing. Anything fast paced and exciting I will be keen to give it a try.

Thanks for sharing your story Liam. We can't wait to see where your journey at SKYCITY takes you and we wish you all the best! If you want to explore the opportunities to join one of our teams at SKYCITY, head over to our careers website.
