Our Logistics Manager at SKYCITY Hamilton, Sheldon Almeida answered a few questions about his role at SKYCITY and why he enjoys being a part of the whanau.
How long have you been at SKYCITY?
I have been at SKYCTY since 2014. I started in Food and Beverage as a VIP Gaming Attendant in Auckland, I then moved into a Warehouse Attendant role. In 2016 I then had the opportunity to move into the position of Supply Chain Coordinator and then a Purchasing Coordinator. Last year (2017) I moved down and joined SKYCITY Hamilton as their Logistics Manager where I manage a team of two in ensuring the smooth flow of SKYCITY Operations.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I really enjoy that I get to interact and assist internal and external stakeholders on a daily basis is something that gives me great pleasure. Of course, working with a team that love what they do makes it a whole lot easier and more enjoyable also!
What sort of challenges do you encounter within your role?
Every day comes with a new challenge. Although the role is generally straightforward, the responsibilities vary and thus demand more every day. I like to think that it is more of a learning for me rather than a challenge and we aim to overcome them all every day.
What do you enjoy most about working at SKYCITY?
Having worked at both SKYCITY Hamilton and Auckland the one thing that comes to mind is the cultural diversity that is accepted so well along with the welcoming and friendly nature of employees within the organisation. I love that as an employee at SKYCITY you are a part of one big happy family.
What advice would you give to anyone considering joining your team or applying for a job at SKYCITY?
I am proof that hard work pays off. If you are passionate about what you do, diligent and loyal, don’t be afraid to reach for the stars. Be proactive and work towards your dream, be open to learning and don’t wait for the opportunities to fall in your lap. Here at SKYCITY there will always be someone to mentor you as you go, don’t be afraid to ask for help.
What SKYCITY employee benefits do you enjoy the most?
All of the benefits help in some way, but for me it would have to be the subsidised parking which has made my life so much easier. Finding parking is always a nightmare but thanks to SKYCITY that is one less thing to worry about in the mornings.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I watch a lot of sports and I really love cooking, especially for my wife
