Meet Rose He, Corporate Analyst at SKYCITY Auckland. Her role is to support the execution of SKYCITY’s corporate development initiatives and involves analysis and research to help our Executive team with their strategic decisions. When asked what she enjoys the most in her role, she says “There are a lot of exciting potential projects that are being considered and I enjoy being involved with them from an early stage.”
Over the last summer, Rose completed an internship through NZCTA (New Zealand Trade China Trade Association) Young Associates which saw her working with Rikai Labs on creating a content marketing ‘chatbot’ product using the WeChat platform. She encourages people to explore learning opportunities that interests you, even if it’s outside your current role. Read more of Rose below!

Can you describe your role?
My role is to support the execution of SKYCITY’s corporate development initiatives. This involves undertaking financial modelling, analysis and research to provide the Executive team with more confidence in making their strategic decisions.
What do you enjoy most about your current role?
What do you enjoy most about your current role?
There are a lot of exciting potential projects that are being considered and I enjoy being involved with them from an early stage. I also like that my role is forward-looking and contributes to the future direction of the business.
What sorts of challenges do you encounter?
There are many assumptions involved with modelling the future impact a project can bring to the business. To give us more confidence in making the decision, we will do scenario analysis to ‘stress-test’ the value of the project under different sets of assumptions.
What did you do before you joined SKYCITY?
Deals and Consulting teams at PwC prior to joining SKYCITY.
What do you enjoy about working at SKYCITY?
I enjoy that there are so many facets to the SKYCITY business, and the genuine and nice people that are working together to deliver the vision.
What would you say to anyone considering joining your team or applying for a job like yours?
My team will be a good fit if you like working on a variety of projects, are motivated and want to add value to the future of the business.
Is there anything you have been doing to advance your own career?
I think it’s important to make the most of opportunities that interest you – it doesn’t necessarily have to relate to your current role or be offered internally by the business.
Over the last summer, I completed a 6-week project internship through NZCTA Young Associates, which allowed me to gain remote working experience with a China-based innovative technology start up, Rikai Labs. Through the internship, I worked on creating a ‘chatbot’ on the WeChat platform that was partly powered by artificial intelligence and could have automated interactions with users. The project was a great way to foray into an area that I don’t usually have exposure to.
I’m also involved with a great group called Young Women in Finance (YWF), which is part of INFINZ (Institute of Finance Professionals New Zealand Inc). YWF is focused on creating networking, collaboration and learning opportunities for women in finance through our many events each year.
Taking on new opportunities may need a bit of courage and commitment, but I find the experiences you get in return to be very worthwhile and immensely satisfying.
Which of SKYCITY’s employee benefit(s) do you enjoy most?
I love having free admission to the Sky Tower. The tower view of Auckland on a sunny day is amazing.
Is there anything about SKYCITY that makes it different to other work places?
SKYCITY has a real people-focus, it cares not just for customers but for its staff too.
Where were you born/raised and how long have you lived in Auckland?
I was born in China and have lived in Auckland for over 20 years.
What do you get up to outside of work?
I enjoy my movies, TV shows and a good game of squash.
