Current role and length of time in that role
VIP Executive Host – Gaming Machines.
2.5yrs
What other roles have you had?
July 2009 – 2010 – Casino Buffet attendant
2010 – 2011 – Casino Buffet Supervisor
2011 – 2012 – Platinum cashier & attendant
2012 – 2017 – VIP Host
2017 - Seconded position for 6 months – VIP Business Development Manager
2017 – current – VIP Executive Host – Gaming Machines.
What does your current role entail?
I have a group of high value gaming machine players that I work with, growing their visitation and play by creating strategic incentives and promotions for unique situations. I also help run the day to day operations of the VIP Platinum & Black rooms, including the running of floor promotions, cash handling, hotel bookings, organising and inviting targeted members to special events. Anticipating our member’s needs and providing superior, personalised customer service to ALL members. This is one the most important parts of our roles which is something the staff at Adelaide Casino excel in.
What do you enjoy most about your current role?
I really enjoy the combination of building customer rapports and being able to give them the best service the business has to offer, while also working on strategic plans/incentives for EGM members. I have met so many different people over the years, both customer and staff which has really grown my perception of the customer service & gaming industry.
One of my favourite parts however is running the VIP events and promotions, both on and off site. I have been lucky enough to host exclusive dinners and events that usually you would not get to do, seeing all the hard work that goes into organising these events and the customer’s reactions is fantastic.
What challenges do you face in your role? What do you think people should know before they apply for a job like this?
The most challenging part of the role is not seeing things in black and white as every situation and member is different. Being able to make decisions based on what is best for the business and member is something that is learnt from experience and can be tricky to navigate at times. A genuine want to engage with members and provide exceptional customer experience is essential in the VIP department.
What do you enjoy about working at SkyCity?
I think my journey is a great example of how you can grow within the business, coming into the industry fresh from school at 18 years old and quickly finding I loved the fast pace, ever changing industry that makes every day different from the next. I have been very lucky to always feel supported with my goals and have the training provided to get there.
Which of SkyCity’s employee benefit(s) do you enjoy most?
Sometimes we forget how lucky we are to have a clean uniform provided every day and don’t forget how much money we save by having PITSTOP!
What makes SkyCity different to other places you’ve worked (good or bad)?
Not many workplaces can get excited about a $330M expansion! It really makes you excited to continue working hard and seeing how the new building is going to be a huge destination in Adelaide.
For job seekers considering joining SkyCity, is there anything you think they need to be aware of?
Despite your training or studying background, if you are willing to work hard, have a great attitude and put in some tough hours there is so much room to grow and learn. I honestly could not speak more highly of SkyCity and I think they have a great sense of community and are always wanting the best for their staff and patrons.
