SkyCity was the first company where I was confident to come out with my colleagues without worrying about how others look at me."
What other roles have you held at SkyCity?
I'm a member of the 'China Ready Team'. The China Ready Team is made up of people from different parts of SkyCity and we work to help find opportunities to make our Chinese customers feel welcome and comfortable at SkyCity.
How long (in total) have you worked at SkyCity?
It has been 9 months since May 2019.
Briefly describe your current role
My role is to promote SkyCity Auckland’s offerings to local and overseas Asian customers.
What do you enjoy most about your current role?
I can work on various areas of the business – Food & Beverage, Hotels, attractions like Sky Tower, and Gaming, which gives me different experiences.
What sorts of challenges do you encounter?
They were totally new areas for me as before I joined SkyCity I haven’t had any experience in either Food & Beverage, or Tourism or Gaming…so in the first couple of months, to fully understand each industry in a very short time was quite challenging.
Tell us about some of your career achievements/highlights at SkyCity
I did some great co-marketing with other brands on social media, and Chinese New Year campaign combining the traditional festival with technology and got great results.
What did you do before you joined SkyCity?
I worked for many advertising and marketing agencies both in China and New Zealand.
What do you enjoy about working at SkyCity?
My colleagues in the Marketing team are awesome. They’re all talented, thoughtful, patient and supportive.
What would you say to anyone considering joining your team or applying for a job like yours? (What do they need to be aware of?)

What does SkyCity’s Rainbow Tick accreditation mean to you?
It means a lot. SkyCity was the first company where I was confident to come out with my colleagues without worrying about how others look at me.
Which of SkyCity’s employee benefit(s) do you enjoy most?
The training to people manager where I can improve my skills, such as the Diversity & Inclusion Summit, and Microsoft Dynamics training. Also, the convenient meals at the 24/7 Employee Restaurant that had saved lots of my time from cooking…
Is there anything about SkyCity that makes it different to other work places?
SkyCity embraces diversity, accepts the new mindset from different cultures, and provides lots of opportunities for staff to try new stuff.
Where were you born/raised and how long have you lived in Auckland?
I was born in Sichuan, a province located in Southern Western of China, raised in Beijing, and moved to Auckland in 2014.
What do you do outside of work?
I love sports. I started to play basketball since primary school, so every month I’ll play with a female team during weekend. I learnt how to swim when I was in kindergarten, so during summer I will go to some beautiful beach to swim around Auckland. I also joined Les Mills so every week I’ll work out at least twice.
Reading is another hobby I’m getting as it’s also a part of my new year resolution. I love reading books about business and information technology. Watching movies is a hobby I’m working to spend less time on…so now I just watch nominated or awarded movies, and high-score American series.
