Meet Denny, VIP Host at Gaming Machines

What do you enjoy the most about your role and working at SkyCity?

Working as a VIP Host at Gaming Machines brings me great opportunities to develop rapport with our external guests as well as with internal staff at SkyCity. My role encourages me to build meaningful engagement with our VIPs who all have different cultures and demographics, and accommodating their needs by cooperating with other departments at SkyCity, such as the hotels and the restaurants. It feels like everyday is different and offers me a great platform to expand my network with both staff and customers at SkyCity.

What have you found at SkyCity that makes it different from other workplaces?

Outside of working as a VIP Host at Gaming Machines, I am also working as a Guest Services Representative at the Grand By SkyCity Hotel. One of the reasons that makes working at SkyCity different is that I get a feeling of working in two different jobs while still being loyal to the same brand. It truly adds more flavour of being dynamic to what I do at SkyCity.

Customer Service is one great thing I have my passion for and SkyCity has been a great workplace for me to grow and therefore, establish my value in the industry. Especially at the Grand By SkyCity Hotel, I have been fortunate enough to interact with a vast range of markets and customers, from our convention, casino, restaurants and more. And I am thankful that I was able to gain my experience and develop my competency throughout my career at SkyCity.

How do you manage your wellbeing and work/life balance?

Life is different when working in a 24 hours operating business, and adapting to different hours can be a challenge sometimes, but I still try my best to get enough sleep for me to stay active. I go and workout after work, and love spending my days off out by the ocean, fishing. I am a huge fan of fishing and recently captivated by being in the water with my speargun. My goal for this summer is to catch a Kingfish for the first time in my life.
