Meet Jigar, Logistics Shift Manager at SkyCity Auckland

We’ve recently caught up with Jigar, Logistics Shift Manager at SkyCity Auckland. He’s been with us since 2005! In this Q&A, we find out more about him, his role at SkyCity and what he gets up to outside of work.

What do you enjoy the most about your role and working at SkyCity?

I really enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and Logistics is at that place where we keep on changing and adapting as per the requirements of the departments. I joined Skycity in 2005, at that time we had 20 outlets, 2 hotels and a casino. My role is to get the products in as per the requirement and sometimes at short notices. After delivering the product, when we hear the satisfaction from the customer, I feel the job is done and to their satisfaction which really makes me happy.

My favourite thing about working at Logistics has always been our people and the culture we have in this place – the team that I work alongside with are awesome. My team Logistics, Purchasing and Procurement are the ones who are able to fulfil the desire and demands of different departments and surely, we are the best team in SkyCity. SkyCity has given me the platform to advance my career and I’ve made some lifelong friends along the way – I’m genuinely grateful for that.

What have you found at SkyCity that makes it different from other workplaces?

Working at SkyCity gives you to a lot of benefits that aren’t available at other workplaces like affordable staff meals, parking and having your uniform laundered daily, insurance and Staff Shuttle. There’s also so many opportunities to learn and grow here.

How do you manage your wellbeing and work/life balance?

Those who know me well enough know that I’m cricket lover. I’ve played cricket for New Lynn Suburbs and this has been instrumental in me maintaining physical and mental wellbeing. I’ve coached and Umpired for U13 Suburbs Team, I have recently picked up coaching and mentoring U17 and U19 Cricket team. I’m also a part of SkyCity indoor cricket team.

Other than cricket I’m also on the Board with New Lynn Primary School as a chairman for the last 9 years, I enjoy eating different Vegetarian cuisines and like listen to instrumental music and practice Yoga and Meditation. I believe in work/life balance and the importance of weaving extra-curricular activity throughout ones working life – I find that SkyCity is very supportive of this balance.
