Current role (and tenure in that role):

I work as a Service Desk Analyst for the ICT team at SkyCity Auckland. I’ve been in this role since July 2019.

Before joining the Service Desk team, I worked as a Room Service Attendant in the In-Room Dining team at SkyCity Hotel for 3 years.

How long (in total) have you worked at SkyCity?

4 years and 3 months

Briefly describe your current role

Some of my responsibilities include performing service desk analyst duties on a 24/7, 365 days shift roster. Some of these include picking up the phone calls from SkyCity staff and assisting them on IT related issues, and completing IT related requests.

Providing day-to-day IT support services to the SkyCity users from all departments related with IT problems and requests.

What do you enjoy most about your current role?

I enjoy answering phone calls and assisting users to resolve their issues over the phone or other applicable communication methods. Resolving issues and helping them in getting by their day is really satisfying.

What sorts of challenges do you encounter?

There are a lot of challenges that come with being a Service Desk Analyst and you have to be able to think quick on your feet as we are the first point of contact for users with IT issues. We deal with different types of people with different computer abilities, so having patience when resolving issues goes a long way.

Tell us about some of your career achievements/highlights at SkyCity

I have joined SkyCity on July 2016 as an IRD Attendant with an aim to join the IT team of SkyCity in the future. Later in 2019, I was successfully selected as an IT Service Desk Analyst which was a golden achievement for me. I did this by making myself ready for this position with knowledge and experience from my past job and training myself with the technologies and skills that was required for this role.

What did you do before you joined SkyCity?

Before joining at SkyCity as Service Desk Analyst, I was working at RemarkIT as a Hardware Processing Engineer, where I was working as processing IT gears. In addition, I used to support our clients on installing IT devices and do tech support.

What do you enjoy about working at SkyCity?

In my role, I get to deal with a lot of people as SkyCity is such a huge business. I’ve come across people whom I assist over the phone who recognise me through my voice even though we may not have met in person and that’s always a nice moment.

The team I work with is really helpful, entertaining and friendly.

What would you say to anyone considering joining your team or applying for a job like yours? (What do they need to be aware of?)

SkyCity IT Service Desk is a great place to work. The people around, teams and work environment always make me feel welcomed.

For people who would like to join this team, they need to make themselves ready with the relevant qualifications, and must have a desire to learn about SkyCity’s ICT applications and technologies.

Discounted meals at Staff Dining & Health/Medical Insurance.

Is there anything about SkyCity that makes it different to other workplaces?
