What do you enjoy the most about your role and working at SkyCity?
My current role as a Contact Centre Supervisor has enabled me to expand my knowledge and expose myself to the wider business units. A good example for this is the involvement I have with SkyCity Adelaide, where the fun part is that I learn about the business mostly via virtual and of course with the help of our wonderful team in Adelaide. Imagine having to explain directions to our guests without being physically in the country? Thankful for the technology that we have these days! I have the chance to build connections and gain knowledge, which is not only limited to the Auckland site, in order to assist with customers’ queries from all SkyCity venues.
Not only that, I also have the pleasure of working with amazing people and be led by supportive leaders. This to me is extremely important as it personally helps with my self-improvement and self-confidence (something that I used to struggle with a lot).
What have you found at SkyCity that makes it different from other workplaces?
Being an entertainment destination, SkyCity offers such a wide career opportunities. I started as an internship student at The Grand by SkyCity as a Guest Services Representative and a year later I was given the opportunity to lead the team as a Duty Manager where I oversee the Hotel’s daily operation. I’ve also experienced working as a Revenue Analyst for SkyCity Hotels Group where I learnt a lot more about the ‘behind the scene’ work on Hotels’ daily operations, something which was very new to me and I never thought of doing. Moving to my current role now where I assist not only with Hotels’ enquiries but guests’ enquiries from site wide.
I’ve always been passionate about customer service particularly in Hotel Industry and have always wanted to progress within Hotels, but I didn’t think I would be able to achieve so much in my career until I started at SkyCity!
How do you manage your wellbeing and work/life balance?
One of the most important things for me is to enjoy a good work-life balance. It took me a while to realise how this actually improves my quality of work and help to retain the energy and passion I need. I love going out for a walk and spending time outdoor especially by the beach. It’s one of the few places where I can just relax and takes my mind away from work.
I’ve also put more effort in working out and have recently found a new workout that I really enjoy doing. I also love spending time with friends and explore new eateries, talking to people especially to those who care about you always helps!
